Remembering a unique railway - the Weston, Clevedon & Portishead.
We are the only group dedicated solely to this railway.
The WC&P Railway Group was launched in November 2006 for people interested in the Weston, Clevedon & Portishead Railway. We are dedicated to the preservation of this railway as far as is practicable, and of keeping the memory alive. We now have about 140 members.
We believe that this fascinating railway shouldn’t be allowed to disappear completely, and hope to persuade local councils and landowners to preserve as much as possible of what remains for posterity. There is perhaps more still visible than many people realise but it would really help if the route was marked e.g. by interpretation boards, so we are working on this and have erected signage at five sites on the railway route, with more to follow.
One way to safeguard the route and prevent further building over it, would be to open some more stretches of line as a public footpath or cycleway complete with suitable sign boards with information about the railway. We hope to work with the councils on this.
